Come Talk to Us @ Toys"R"Us

We know that finding the right job is a big deal, so here's some information to help make the process easier.

Making a Great 1st Impression

Did you know it takes an average of 5 – 7 seconds to make a first impression? That's not much time!

Here are a few tips on how to make a great first impression, whether you're interviewing with Us or someone else!

  • Dress appropriately. So what does "appropriate" mean? It means dressing for the interview the same way you would dress during a typical day of work. So if you're interviewing for a Management office job, wear business casual attire. Going for a job in a Store or the Distribution Centre? Then clean jeans and a shirt are fine.
  • Show up on time. Being late sends the message that you don't really care about the job, which is NOT the first impression you want to make!
  • Smile! A warm, confident smile puts both you and your interviewer at ease.
  • Introduce yourself. Use your first and last name, and make sure you get the name of the person doing the interview…then use it during the conversation.
  • Make eye contact. Direct eye contact tells the interviewer that you're engaged and interested.
  • Avoid texting or answering calls during the interview.
  • Be positive! Focus on what you liked about your last job, or why you're excited to be working with "Us".

3 SIMPLE RULES FOR WRITING A RESUME AND COVER LETTER THAT GETS YOU NOTICED

  1. Follow the "single page" rule.
Most recruiters go through hundreds of applications at a time, so try to keep both your resume and cover letter to a single page each. Only include your most recent job experience – you can always provide additional detail if the recruiter asks for it.
  2. Customize.
You may be applying to a dozen jobs at once, but your chance of being noticed goes up dramatically if you take the time to customize your documents. Take a few minutes to add the name of the Company you're applying to and the specific position to your cover letter. Call out any relevant job experience in the letter, then make sure your resume clearly shows that your top priority is being hired by the Company you're applying to.
  3. Spell and Grammar check.
Sounds like a given, but you wouldn't believe the number of applications that are overlooked or tossed aside as a result of spelling and grammatical errors. Bottom line – recruiters pay attention to spelling and grammar!

What to Expect from the Hiring Process

Store Support Centre and Distribution Centre:

If you're called to come in for an interview, you'll meet with a Human Resources and/or Department representative. Some positions require a skills test and/or certification prior to employment.

If you're the right fit to join the Toys"R"Us team, you can expect to meet with others before a final hiring decision is made. This might require more than one visit to our offices or Distribution Centre. Of course, references will be checked before any offer of employment is given.
